PARK AND PLANNING COMMITTEE MINUTES
OF JANUARY 21, 2003
PRESENT: Ron Milbrath, Dave Meyer, Diana Radtke, Bob Perkins
ABSENT: Terry Otto
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m.
Ron moved, and Dave seconded, approval of the minutes. Motion carried.
Bob explained the meaning of strategic planning. The committee & the residents then assembled two lists:
I. POSITIVES ABOUT CONCORD
+ Closeness of the community, exemplified by the town picnic and the Christmas tree lighting
ceremony (It was noted by one resident that we have a way to go in this regard )
+ A country feel, with accessibility for an easy commute.
+ Working for a better local school
+ Natural resources Southern Kettle Moraine, wetlands, Goose Lake, wildlife, the DNR Prairie
Restoration, the Oconomowoc River
+ Historical value.
+ Rural character, with low population density.
+ Great place to raise a family
+ Subdivision with one acre lots, allowing for some residential diversity.
+ Low taxes
II. NEGATIVES ABOUT CONCORD
Some residents lack pride in their property
- Four school districts
- Questions about closing Concord Center School.
- A desirable area for developers
- Lack of local control
- Lack of information dissemination (We don't have a regular newsletter.)
- No border agreement with Sullivan
- Lack of comprehensive zoning plans
- We have not made use of free/low cost information on planning, smart growth, etc
Randy Callison will obtain a large map of Concord. Bob will see about getting copies of the new Jefferson
County zoning ordinances.
Moved by Ron, seconded by Dave, to adjourn. Motion carried.
