CHECKLIST

Note: Most points within this checklist are already addressed in the draft element. This checklist should be used to fine-tune the element (make sure nothing is missing), and combine the sections of the element prepared by different authors into one unified document.

  1. Inventory of agricultural resources in the Town.
    1. Productive agricultural areas and lands.

      1. Type of farming, and trend of current farming (e.g., trend away from dairy farms to truck farming, hobby farms, and so forth)
      2. Number of productive farms
      3. Maybe map the prime farmland in Town (we can assist with map)
    2. Add Farmland Preservation Program participation data.
    3. Identify issues and concerns about the continuation/preservation of productive use of agricultural lands (such as economics of farming, value of land for farming vs. for development, loss of family farms, etc.)
    4. Compare status of farming in Town to neighboring Towns (include data if have it already, but a written discussion would be fine just to identify the setting of the Town in agriculture)
  1. Inventory of natural resources in the Town.
    1. Significant woodlands/forest areas.

      1. Any prominent species and known ‘trophy’ trees
      2. Any locations of significant woodlands worthy of potential preservation.
    2. Groundwater

      1. Any issues with shallow aquifer (shallow wells) quality
      2. Known availability of ground water (e.g., any local wells that must be drilled deeper to access a water source).
      3. Any other concerns and information about groundwater.
    3. Environmentally Sensitive Areas (could be mapped)

      1. Surface water (Golden Lake, rivers, streams, creeks, ponds)
      2. Environmental Corridors
      3. Significant wetlands
      4. Floodplains (any issues with storm water management in Town?)
      5. Steep slopes
    4. Wildlife Habitat

      1. Any significant wildlife species
      2. Locations of habitat (probably within the environmentally sensitive areas)
      3. Any known threatened or endangered species
    5. Parks and Open Spaces

      1. Listing of parks, public and private, if any.
      2. Identify use of Concord Park and other parks, types of facilities in park
      3. Recreational opportunities in Town (such as boating, trails, athletic associations or groups (schools) that provide recreation opportunities)
      4. If not already identified in environmentally sensitive areas, any significant opens space important to Town.
    6. Metallic/non-metallic mineral resources

      1. Map locations
      2. Written description
    7. Any other natural resources not previously identified
  1. Historical and Cultural Resources
    1. Historical growth of Town (great information already in draft)
    2. Culture of Town (great information already in draft)
    3. Community design (such as hamlets or pockets of historical enclaves serving the farming community)
  1. List concerns and Goals, Policies, and Objectives to the above points.
  1. List programs that may assist the goals.

    1. In addition to the list in the draft, need to discuss County zoning and plat control?
    2. Discuss working with the County on Zoning, Purchase of Development Rights, Land Trusts, etc.

Please note that much of the above information can be provided via maps. Please let me know if you need maps, or the information is probably available through County planning.
